Up on Penang Hill

Image
We woke up super early in the morning, 6 a.m. to be precise to enjoy a morning dip in the pool and to get ourselves ready before heading to Penang Hill. Waking up to a view like this.....priceless! So sunny that my eyes nearly blinded by the sunlight @.@ Earlier that day, we departed at around seven thirty in the morning to catch the fonicular railway to the top of Penang Hill as there'll be an expected massive tourists on the site. Tips: Make sure you go early during public holiday and weekend to avoid long queues. Yay! Got the fast lane ticket =) A group shot before we hop on the train. Train ride up the steep slope was fun. Everyone were freaking out throughout the entire ride up the hill, so steep and scary since we were seated on the front row of the train. But we did survive somehow =p The journey took around 5 to 10 minutes which is way shorter than the time we spent waiting for the train. Penang Hill is also known as Bukit Bendera in Malay which is located in A...

Penang Trip: Hawkers Street Food Experience in Georgetown

Image
Yay!!! So thankful that most of my tutorial students now were having their term break. I finally squeezed out some time to filter those photos which have been long abandoned on my Asus phone drive. We-fie before the flight to Penang =) Mood: Excited Here's the inside scoop of our last teacher's trip in Penang, Malaysia. We first stopped in St. Giles Wembley hotel, a 4 star hotel nestled in the heart of Georgetown. Waiting to check - in at the cozy lobby area. Spacious, clean and tidy. Really enjoyed our 3D2N stay here. =p Bathroom with transparent glass complete with bathroom essentials. After a quick refreshing shower, we headed down to their hawker centre, to hunt for food. First try is their famous Lok - Lok in town. It is a variety of food in sticks dipped into a pot of boiling water and then dip into different types of sauce (chili sauce, sweet sauce or peanut sauce). Tailor it to the taste of your liking. Lok-lok, which means dip-dip. Kinda like the taste. I wa...

Batu Caves

Image
One of the significant religious shrine in Malaysia, done in magnificent natural limestone caves, is undoubtedly Batu Caves. This temple is situated 13 kilometres from the north of the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. It can already be reached by using the newest KMT commuter train running from Sentral Station to Batu Caves for only 1MYR. Around the vicinity was a flock of birds swarming around the place. We just took a quick detour in here using our hotel free shuttle bus. It's not as grandeur as anyone expected but it serves as a treat for us before heading to Twin Towers, also a nearby attraction. While waiting for my other colleagues who wished to go up the caves, me and my husband just managed to stroll and dined - in to different stalls/shops in the area.

Cool Visit to Royal Selangor Pewter Centre

Image
The Malaysian Royal Selangor is justifiably popular - as the world's largest pewter tankard, recognised by the Guinness Book of Records and was been famous for their great pewter designs. And being only half an hour from Kuala Lumpur by taxi or only 5 minutes drive from the Wangsa Maju terminal, it gets on the itinerary of most international and domestic tourists visiting this region. After securing our luggages to Maytower Hotel, we headed directly to Royal Selangor to have a first hand pewter experience. We're being greeted by an in house guide, who took us to the history gallery and to the splendid collections of pewterware. Royal Selangor had its humble start in 1885 by Yong Koon. In his shop named before as Ngeok Foh (Jade Peace), was a home of crafted objects from pewter. Teapots, candle holders, incense burners, and other items used for prayers in temples are some of their main products at that time. Then we walked through the production area where pewter products are be...

Lost at Genting Highlands Resort

Image
On this next posts, it narrates about my first experienced in Malaysia though at first it didn't turn out right due to some delays but in the end it was full of fun! Come and join me as I unleashed my Mystifying Malaysian's Experience :) It was the start of the new academic year 2010 - 2011, when my school planned for an out of town 3 day - tour as a yearly treat to their "hardworking and very competitive teachers"...naks! This time is in Malaysia. We are divided into three groups. All expatriates are assigned in the second group with a scheduled flight at 1:00pm, that was an awesome hot flight! But not as hot as this fact that we are asked to report first to school and accompany the students for their half day learning process. Isn't so pretty cool?! :D On our way out to the airport, the traffic is so nightmarish. We're even worried that we'll reach the airport late. But glad to say we weren't but we need to wait for another hour to wait for the plan...
