Ramayana Betawi 2014: Jakarta Highlight Performance

This week, me and my other pals are delighted to be able to get a chance to watch the Ramayana Betawi "Rama Jadi Raja", performed at the magnificent Gedung Teater Jakarta in Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jl. Cikini Raya No. 73, Jakarta Pusat.

It was such an amazing stage performances which explores the romance and adventure of Rama and Sita in traditional masked dances accompanied with gamelan music.

Each part was brilliantly acted and I was really thrilled with the stunning movements of the dancers!!! Feels like dancing too! =D

Betawi culture was also incorporated in the show by infusing humour into their conversations. You will never be left wondering what just happened or falling asleep in your seat during the show. I found myself laughing throughout the show and I was not expecting Ramayana Betawi to be hugely enjoyable and funny show.

If there's one point of criticism I have for this production is that it was played in Indonesian language where I find it hard to digest each word. Thanks to my friend, Geraldine, who never gets tired translating it for me ;) It is better to read the story before the performance to get a better idea about the storyline. Almost everyone in the theatre knows the Ramayana plot....except me! Hahaha =D (See, how attentive I am in the class when my primary teacher do the storytelling of Ramayana, one of the famous Hindu epic). I saw some people holding their copy of synopsis but unfortunately I didn't get one.

A wise monkey, Hanuman

Videos and photos are prohibited during the show but I was lucky enough to get some vivid photos.=D Me and my other pals are seated on the third front row near the stage where most of the VIP(s) and some invited TV crews from different networks were there to cover the said show sponsored by the office of Tourism and Culture of Jakarta.

A huge thanks to my dear friend, Tessier, and to his friend, Ms. Ayi Putri, a freelance journalist of Media Profesi and a producer of INARTE (Indonesian Art Theatre), for inviting us to these cultural, power packed show. Definitely an interesting experience!!!

Coming up next, Indonesian Art Theatre (INARTE) to stage "Les Miserables The Musical" at Ciputra Artpreneur Theatre on November 29, 2014 was indeed a show to behold. Can't wait to be wowed again! See you there, peeps! Xx
