Following this, we watched a scientific documentary on the benefits of Yakult probiotics and the role of L. casei strain Shirota in the maintenance of our digestive system.
After the presentation, we are divided into two groups and guided towards their factory and technological areas where we are given the chance to view the entire high - tech production process through the glass - walled viewing gallery. Huge metal tanks of powdered skim milk, glucose, sugar, and water are mixed, sterilised at a very high temperature to destroy any bacteria present then it was further fermented with the cultured bacteria till it reach its ideal concentration. Strict standards always applied to ensure the hygiene and high quality of their products. Prior to bottling, some flavours, sterile water and syrup are added. Some laboratory analysis are also observed to confirm the quality assurance have been effective throughout the production process.
It was so exciting to see how the plastic bottles are produced on site! Too bad...it was off camera :( so I can't show you here how amazing the site is. The machine have the capacity to produced around 11,000 plastic bottles per hour. No wonder Yakult company can delivers almost 100 billions of bottles to the different places in Indonesia even to other countries per day.
Bottles are drop down from the bottle storage tank into a large circular selector which places the bottles in an upright position before it was filled. Here on the last stage, different kinds of machines were used....filling, capping, sealing, shrink - wrap and packaging machines. After the bottles are filled with Yakult, they are capped with a foil lid, printed, sealed and was transferred along the conveyor belt to the packaging facility. Each of the bottles are sorted and group into five before they are wrapped with polyethylene film of red and blue colours. The blue film was distributed by the "Yakult lady", an independent dealer of Yakult right at your doorsteps while the Yakult wrapped with red film goes straight to the different major supermarket chains on the area.
The whole manufacturing process looked like easy but a tedious job hence we just decided to just glanced through the glass wall and avoid interference on the factory. Another bunch of snacks and two complimentary bottles of Yakult were enjoyed while waiting for the other group to take their turn to view the production area. Yum Yum Yum!!! Then it was ended with a Q & A sections and appreciation to the Yakult company.
As we left the factory, our minds were full of inspirational memories and had learned something new. Looking forward for a new set of study tour by next year but probably the place must be situated within easy reach so to maximise the whole day learning new things and not on the roads......just my opinion =D =D =D
