A Walk Through the Singapore Zoo (Part 2/5)
Next we followed a path that led us to the Wild Africa.
We're being greeted by gentle cheetahs as we enter this Wild Africanian haven.
We're being greeted by gentle cheetahs as we enter this Wild Africanian haven.
It was an "open concept" zoo so there were some park rules that needs to be observed carefully and to take extra precautions.
According to one of the staff in the zoo, there was a horrific incident happened here two years ago, when a Malaysian cleaner accidentally jumped into the animal's enclosure in which he was mauled to death by the three white tigers.
However, officials assured the public that the exhibit is very safe. Just follow the Park rules:
"Stay only where humans roam. Venturing into prohibited areas is highly dangerous".
"Respect our animals - do not feed or tease them".
Watch out for some of the animals in Wild Africa.
White Rhinoceros
The Lion King
Too bad we haven't seen face to face the sun bear and the hunting dog on this area.
Spot the differences..... which is which?
Leopard? Jaguar? Cheetah?
Most of the time, I mistakenly consider a cheetah as a leopard or a leopard to a jaguar but now I know how they're different.
Jaguars and leopards came from Cat family. They are night animals. But jaguars are from South and Central America and Mexico while leopards are from Africa, Asia, China and India.
Cheetahs are different family. A day animals, a lone hunters that can stride up to 23 feet. But comparing to their strength, leopards and jaguars far outweighs the strength of a cheetah. They can behead a victim with one swipe of their claw.
I've watched the feeding sessions of the jaguars and my jelly legs couldn't move at all and I almost fainted when water goes bloody.
Aside from the animal's ability, they're also different with pattern looks.
Leopard has flower like - called rosettes pattern and it is in large numbers with a slightly different color inside.
Jaguars' markings also include rosetted dots but then sometimes have spots in the center with darker, thicker outline.
Cheetah have solid, evenly distributed spots. No rosettes.
